Coastal Holidays in Weymouth and Portland

Weymouth is a brilliant coastal town, perfect for that special family holiday, with so much to see and do, you will never get bored here, the young and the young at heart will absolutely love it.
Weymouth’s golden sandy beach is just superb and is the perfect place to put down your beach towel and lay your head on the soft  sun kissed sand, kids will also love the beach, the sand is perfect for those sandcastles that have to be built when you’re on your holidays.

Weymouth’s beach is very clean and safe with lifeguards constantly patrolling, the beach is only minutes from the town centre where you will find an array of great high street shops that you would expect to see and also many unique little shops selling things that you wouldn’t find anywhere else, if you love shopping you’ll think you’re in heaven.
Weymouth boasts fantastic places to eat, suitable for all tastes and budgets from fine dining to award winning fish and chips, the local produce that many of the restaurants take advantage of is just divine, made to make your mouth water. There are also many country pubs which sell lagers, beers, wines, ales and good honest hearty meals.

Weymouth is also home to many bars, clubs, bistros and cafes where you must try the Dorset cream teas which are absolutely delicious.
Weymouth has a vibrant historic harbour which dates back to the 17th century and is a great place to take the opportunity to sit down and have some refreshments, you can also enjoy evening meals on the harbour, perfect to just relax and watch the world go by.

Weymouth’s fantastic Georgian seafront with 3 miles of promenade with breathtaking views across the bay and the Jurassic coast will surely delight.
There is just so much to do here you can even take a trip out to the Channel Islands and Northern France, if you fancy it.
Stop and watch a punch and judy show, take the kids on a donkey ride, trampolines are available and are great fun for the kids, pedal boats and swing boats are also available to hire (fantastic fun)
Weymouth holds many events including, “Spirit of the sea festival”, “Spirit of the sea maritime festival” which takes place in July, Weymouth sea festival, carnival and show nights, theme nights, live music, firework displays, A Harley Davidson Parade, beach volley ball championships, beach kite festival and many, many more.

Weymouth has many superb gardens that you must discover that offer playgrounds, skate parks, tennis courts, lovely walks, community fairs and open air music festivals.
Radi Pole Park and Gardens, which runs alongside the RSPB swannery nature reserve, great if you crave peace and quiet.  Sandsfoot Gardens which has spectacular views across to Portland harbour. Greenhill Gardens, which is one of the best green spaces in the country, has been awarded green flags for being very safe, clean and accessible.

Bowleaze Clove is a great park where you can sit and enjoy panoramic views it is very peaceful here a great place to chill out. Easton Gardens offers great green spaces and has also been awarded green flags, it is very safe clean and accessible. Lodmmor Country Park is a fantastic place with 350 acres of grounds, there is a cafe, public house and many events are held here, including car rallies, summer fairs and circus shows. Nothe Gardens is a peaceful haven and is situated in a stunning location perfect for dog walkers and sun bathers. Just across the bay from Weymouth is the “Isle” of Portland, a perfect place to visit when you want to get away from it all, fantastic place for nature lovers, cyclists and walkers and all outdoor enthusiasts.

The “Isle” of Portland is part of the world heritage coast, and there are many activities that you can take part in here as well as relaxing spas and adrenaline sports for all you adrenaline junkies out there. The waters around Portland and Weymouth are perfect for many water sports including diving, sailing, kitesurfing, power kiting, windsurfing, kayaking, water skiing, wake boarding, gig rowing and jet skiing and so much more. The sailing events for the 2012 olympic and paralympic games are being hosted here, this is the place to be in 2012.

On land there are also many great things to do like fishing, angling, rock climbing, abseiling, skating, cycling and walking, there are many superb coastal and inland paths for you to discover with stunning views, you can discover hidden coves, castle ruins and many lighthouses, so whether you want to walk 2 miles or 20 miles, Portland and Weymouth caters for all. The “Isle” of Portland is especially good for rock climbing with over 900 routes that cater for all abilities, all with spectacular views. The “Isle” of Portland is full of history and character and here nature thrives, you can really get closer to nature on Portland. Portland has many areas of outstanding natural beauty, and beautiful villages for you to explore, as you walk or cycle through them, with dramatic cliffs and small rocky coves this place is sure to leave you speechless.

Weymouth and Portland are linked together by a very special beach called Chesl beach and this beach really does surprise, it is absolutely beautiful, and is of great importance and stretches for 17 miles.
Many areas on Portland have been designated as sites of special scientific interest they are just so beautiful words just can’t do them justice.
Butterflies, wildlife, birds and plants all thrive on the “Isle” of Portland you really can get up close to wildlife here, so if you love bird watching don’t forget to pack your binoculars, you won’t believe your eyes at the surprises you may see.

Spring and Summer are the best times to visit Portland if you want to go bird watching because of the migration periods, you will see chiffchaffs, wheatears, sea birds including terns, skuas, shearwaters, waders, gannets and sea duck, fulmars, kittiwakes, guillemots, razor bills and puffins, this place truly is a bird watchers paradise.
